Traditions are upheld at the Attersee Grand Prix. For 33 years, this sailing regatta has been started from land – with a shot from a WWII cannon. This time there were 97 boats with 317 active people on board. A 22 m² racing dinghy, a wooden boat built in 1925, crossed the imaginary finish line in first place.
One of the youngest participants, Alexander Poell, who sailed with his uncle Matthias Poell (UYC Attersee) and Martin Schmid, celebrated the win. The brothers Christian and Bernhard Eitzinger (SC Attersee/OeSV) secured second place. Helmsman Michael Gilhofer (UYC Attersee) and his team on the “Superstar” – a specially rigged Brenta 33 – covered the shortened distance of 11.7 miles (21.7 km) as the third fastest.
