A Greenpeace activist has been fined 7,200 euros for a dangerous protest at the 2021 European Football Championship. The district court in Munich imposed the fine on Tuesday against the 40-year-old because he flew into the Allianz Arena with a motorized paraglider in June 2021, injuring two people in the spectator stands. The campaign was directed against the EM sponsor Volkswagen and its role in climate change.
A catastrophe almost happened on June 15, 2021 when the motor paraglider touched a steel cable and the pilot lost control of his aircraft. The glider stabilized just above the spectators, and during the subsequent emergency landing on the field, the convict, who works as a surgeon, injured his ankle. The motorized paraglider, which was illegally flying over the stadium, had already been targeted by the snipers, but there was no order to shoot. The players are warming up in the stadium before the match between Germany and France.
A 36-year-old, who the court was convinced had helped with the preparations, was also sentenced to a fine of 3,000 euros. He had admitted to having informed the police shortly before the overflight for security reasons.
