Formula 1 will add a new date in Madrid with an urban circuit

The president of the Executive Committee of Ifema Madrid, Jose Vicente de los Mozossaid today that this trade fair institution awaits the signing of a contract for the Spanish capital to host, in the future, a Grand Prix of Formula 1 in an urban circuit.

“I know when we are going to sign it and when we are going to do it”said the Spanish official although he did not want to reveal the date of the signing of the contract, according to the sports newspaper Marca.

De los Mozos specified that there is a “confidentiality agreement” with Formula One Management (FOM), which is the operating company of Formula 1, and that “prevents” him from disclosing the details of the contract.

The competition could generate around 500 million euros a year for Madrid, with an urban circuit around the Fairgrounds and with more than 12 pavilions available to the teams.

“We want it not only to be a race, but to be the best in Europe,” said the Ifema manager.

If the agreement is finalized, Spain will have two annual venues for Formula 1 since Madrid would join Barcelona, ​​which organizes the competition of the highest category of world motorsports at the Montmeló circuit.

According to De los Mozos, he has already started talks with the person in charge of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali, and assured that “there is mutual trust” to make a Grand Prix in Madrid a reality.
