Despite all the hardships, the Tour de France can also be enjoyed – this is proven by classics specialist Benoit Cosnefroy, who quickly got off his bike during the difficult mountain stage on Saturday and partyed with his fans.
The Tour de France is an ordeal that can apparently also be made into a party. That’s probably what Benoit Cosnefroy thought on the 14th stage, when he was welcomed by his fan club at the foot of the extremely difficult climb to the Col de Joux Plane. A video of what was probably the most incredible party on this year’s tour was circulated on Twitter.
When Cosnefroy sees his singing fan club, he gets off his bike and apparently takes a sip of beer next to a Bengali torch. Then the Frenchman hugged a few fans and lifted his bike in the air before he hopped over the asphalt with his supporters, singing exuberantly. A video of the action can be seen on Twitter.
The fan club called FCC supports both Cosnefroy and his AG2R teammate Aurélien Paret-Peintre, who was born in Annemasse, the starting location of Stage 14. “We’re here with FCC and some friends. We invited everyone to have a shot at the bar, eat something and have a good time,” Cosnefroy’s wife Margaux told France 2. Paret-Peintre’s friend Clara referred also proud of having painted the street all night long.
Cosnefroy continued the stage after the party break. The 27-year-old reached the finish line in a group with Paret-Peintre 37:29 minutes behind the Spanish winner of the day, Carlos Rodriguez. In the overall standings, the classics specialist in 102nd place is already more than three hours behind leader Jonas Vingegaard.
