There remains a lot of uncertainty surrounding how the event will be held, including how tickets will be distributed to local spectators, who will be separated from athletes and other personnel at the venues in Beijing City and in Zhangjiakou, in the Hebei province.
“Nothing has changed at all, only the coronavirus prevention measures, which are like putting on a raincoat”Xu Jicheng, an official with the Beijing Organizing Committee, told a press conference.
Such measures, including the strict isolation of those outside the Games, could be “a bit inconvenient,” he acknowledged.
During the Games, athletes, journalists, staff and volunteers will remain within a “bubble” under a so-called closed-loop management.
Services that replicate those offered in Beijing, such as its bar district and the Silk Market, will be available within the bubble, authorities said. There will also be convenience stores and shopping venues.
Xu said the downside of the coronavirus measures will be small compared to advances in public health, referring to the athletes’ mantra “no pain, no gain.”
