Hertha goalie suspended after fight in Zell am See

Police are investigating him after a fight over the weekend. He was suspended by his club until further notice on Monday evening. The 28-year-old is said to have gotten into an argument with a local (22) on the street early on Sunday morning. The initially verbal argument escalated, and Gersbeck is said to have injured his opponent. Before the incident, the goalkeeper had apparently been out and about with fans from the Ultra scene in the Zell am See city area.

According to “ORF Salzburg”, the 22-year-old is said to have suffered serious head injuries in the dispute, but he has now been released from the hospital. He is expected to be questioned by the police on Monday. The Hertha goalie, on the other hand, was questioned by investigators on Sunday morning, but he refused to testify, said police spokesman Aytunc Bahar.

Hertha reacted to the incidents early Monday evening with a temporary suspension. “Due to the police investigations into our player Marius Gersbeck, we have decided to suspend Marius from team training until further notice. He has also left the team hotel without permission,” explained managing director Thomas Herrich in a club statement.

The decision was made by Herrich and sports director Benjamin Weber, it said. “The reason for the suspension is the alleged facts in the context of the training camp in Zell am See/Austria”. Gersbeck has to keep fit individually for the time being. The goalkeeper himself or his management have not yet commented on the events. The team will be at the training camp in Salzburg until the end of the week.
