Daniel Ricciardo returns to Formula 1 with a very clear desire

Daniel Ricciardo hopes to replace Sergio Pérez at Red Bull once the Mexican’s contract is up, the team boss said on Tuesday, Christian Horner.

The 34-year-old Australian will begin his return to Formula One with Red Bull-owned AlphaTauri in Hungary this weekend after leaving McLaren last season and serving as Red Bull’s reserve.

Ricciardo raced for Red Bull Racing from 2014-18, taking seven of his eight wins with the British team. Pérez, who joined in 2021, has a contract until the end of 2024.

“He (Ricciardo) He firmly wants to be diving for that Red Bull seat in 2025. That is his goal and objective. By going to AlphaTauri, I think he sees it as his best path to make his case for 2025.”said horner to the F1 Nation Formula One podcast.

ricciardo has replaced the Dutch rookie nyck devrieswho has not scored this year, in the last classified AlphaTauri with 12 of the 22 races of the season to go.

“We have loaned AlphaTauri to him until the end of the year. Obviously, our drivers will once again be Max (Verstappen) and Checo (Perez) next year, but it’s always good to have talent in reserve.”.

Red Bull has dominated the season, winning every race, but Verstappen he has a sizeable 99-point lead over Perez after winning eight of 10 races.

The state of form of the Mexican has led to speculation about the possibility that he does not fulfill his entire contract.
