Bayer Leverkusen have strengthened left-back Mitchel Bakker from Paris Saint-Germain.
Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen have signed Mitchel Bakker from Paris Saint-Germain. The club announced on Monday evening.
“Mitchel Bakker is a technically adept and dynamic flank player whose profile fits Bayer 04 perfectly,” said Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes.
According to Bakker, the move to Bayer is the “opportunity to take the next development step at an attractive club. The Leverkusen package as a whole has convinced me. The athletic management tried very hard for me,” said the 21-year-old, who signed a contract until 2025 signed.
Mitchel Bakker: Undisputed under Tuchel, dispensable under Pochettino
Bakker comes from the youth of Ajax Amsterdam and moved to Paris in 2019. In the past season, the left-back was one of the undisputed regular players in the first half of the season under Thomas Tuchel. Under Tuchel’s successor Mauricio Pochettino, Bakker had a much more difficult position.
In total, he played 45 competitive games in the two years at PSG. The Dutch U21 international is the second new signing for Leverkusen after goalkeeper Andrey Lunev and the third left-back in the squad alongside Daley Sinkgraven and Wendell.
