After learning that River will receive part of the space where the former ESMA operatedthe Núñez club announced this Tuesday that it reached an agreement with the Human Rights entities so that the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team carry out the necessary excavations before starting the infrastructure works.
In addition, the club announced that it will reform the place so that it can be used by its lower soccer divisions, although it will also will create “a meeting space for sport and Memory”.
“River undertook to guarantee the necessary means so that -before any infrastructure work begins on said property- the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team carry out the necessary excavations in order to clear up any doubts regarding the fact that there have been buried the remains of victims of state terrorism during the last dictatorship,” said the club’s authorities.
Finally, they announced that the club will add to its structure a Human rights commission “to keep the Memory and its commitment to Truth and Justice in force.” It “will be linked to all the universes of the institution and especially those where children and young people participate, generating systematic instances of training and participation to raise awareness and continue working on the different problems related to the defense of human rights.”

“In the first days of last June, River Plate signed an agreement with the State Assets Administration Agency (AABE) through which said body granted the Club a permit to use land where the sports field operated in the past. of ESMA and which was currently in the possession of the Navy, with the aim of building a training center there for the more than 800 young people who make up its football training divisions.
As a non-profit civil association and in keeping with its permanent commitment to Memory, Truth and Justice, the Club assumed the responsibility of carrying out joint work with the human rights organizations with the State, with the aim of seek to clarify any crime against humanity that may have occurred in the place during the years of the last military dictatorship.
