It’s worked out. RB Leipzig are loaning out Dutchman Xavi Simons. A Bundesliga rival also had their sights set on the 20-year-old.
The Dutch national soccer player Xavi Simons will play for RB Leipzig in the coming season.
The 20-year-old is on a one-year loan from French champions Paris Saint-Germain. This was announced by the German cup winner and PSG. “In his position in attacking midfield, he is one of the best players in European football for his age group and has everything he needs to cause a sensation in the Bundesliga with his individual class,” said Leipzig’s sporting director Max Eberl. And PSG wished “Xavi a great season with RB Leipzig”.
Simons moved from Paris to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands a year ago, with a contract until the summer of 2027. PSG made use of a buyback option this summer. The attacking midfielder was trained at FC Barcelona. “Ready for a new chapter,” tweeted Simons, who had also reportedly been in the sights of Leipzig’s Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Simons will also travel to the Leipzig training camp in South Tyrol this Thursday. “There is a perfect mix of young and experienced players in the team and the whole club just exudes a great hunger for success,” he said in a statement from his new club.
Eighth RB newcomer
Simons is already the eighth signing of the Saxons for the coming season to compensate for the departures of Christopher Nkunku (FC Chelsea), Konrad Laimer (FC Bayern) and Dominik Szoboszlai (FC Liverpool). It is important that they are very, very far along with the squad planning more than three weeks before the first competitive game, said Eberl.
