Political crisis in Vélez: the IGJ intimidated the club to anticipate elections

The General Inspection of Justice (IGJ) upheld the complaint from the opposition group “Primero Vélez” and intimidated the authorities of Velez Sarsfield to convene an Extraordinary Assembly, within 15 days, to call the elections agreed for November.

In the midst of the institutional and sports crisis that the “Fortín” is experiencing, the Justice gave rise to the request of the opposition group “Primero Vélez” and requested that the agenda be “call extraordinary elections as a consequence of the removal of all the members of the Board of Directors, in accordance with articles 31 and 37 of the Statute”.

In addition, the IGJ indicated that it is believed “a Membership Commission for the control and allocation of resources until the new authorities of the institution are formed”. The Assembly where the date of the electoral act will be defined must take place within 15 days, that is, before August 3.

Federico Balestrini, a partner of Vélez and a reference to “Primero Vélez”, was the one who filed the complaint in May alleging a breach of statutory regulations that regulate the request of partners before the Board of Directors for the call to the Assembly of Representatives.

It should be noted that the group’s petition was accompanied by the signature of 2020 partners who requested the creation of an Extraordinary Assembly of Representatives. For their part, from the side of the ruling party, they reported that at the beginning of July the Velez groups were notified with the aim of forming the Electoral Board for the elections that are agreed for November.
