The ban was later lifted, but numerous countries and federations still ban their players from wearing the hijab.
So far, Benzina is expected to be the only one wearing the headscarf when Morocco faces Germany in Group H of the World Cup on Monday.
The hijab is a garment that covers the head and is part of the identity of some Muslim women.
