Jul 22 (Reuters) – Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton extended his Formula One career record for pole positions to 104 on Saturday, with a new fastest time achieved in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The 38-year-old Briton edged championship leader Max Verstappen’s Red Bull by just 3 thousandths of a second, setting a record ninth pole position at the same circuit.

It will be the first time that Hamilton has started first on the grid at a grand prix since Saudi Arabia in December 2021.
