The next DFB opponent, Colombia, also made a successful start at the World Cup. Switzerland is about to move into the round of 16, Norway is threatened with the end.

Germany’s next opponents Colombia started the women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand with an unchallenged victory.

The South American runners-up won 2-0 (2-0) against South Korea in Sydney. Catalina Usme with a hand penalty in the 30th minute and Linda Caicedo in the 39th minute scored the deserved success.

The 18-year-old offensive player Caicedo, who has already recovered from cancer, convinced with speed and technique. Her goal benefited from a mistake by goalkeeper Yoon Younggeul, who skidded the shot over her fists into the net. Colombia is the next opponent of the DFB selection on Sunday (11.30 a.m. CEST/ARD) in Sydney. South Korea’s Casey Phair, who came on in the 78th minute, is now the youngest player in World Cup history at just 16 years and 26 days.

Switzerland beckons round of 16 entry

For the German coach Inka Grings, the round of 16 with the soccer players of Switzerland is within reach, while co-favorite Norway is threatened with being eliminated from the preliminary round. After the 0-0 in a direct duel, Group A is heading for an exciting final, because World Cup debutants Philippines surprisingly defeated hosts New Zealand 1-0 (1-0).

For the Swiss, who took four points from two games, a draw in the last group game against hosts New Zealand was enough to advance. The Scandinavians, without a win so far, will need to win their final clash against the Philippines to maintain their chances of reaching the last 16. At the start there was a 0-1 draw against New Zealand.

Even before the start of the game, the 1995 world champion had to cope with a hard failure. Offensive power Ada Hegerberg, world footballer of 2018, pulled her groin while warming up and only watched the game from the bench. Like the 10,769 fans in the stadium, she saw Hamilton as a poor game with few great chances.

The Philippines caused a big surprise by beating co-hosts New Zealand. In Wellington, Sarina Bolden scored the only goal in a hard-fought game in the 24th minute. Her header was also the Philippines’ first shot on goal at a World Cup. At the start of Group A, the Philippines lost 2-0 to the Swiss.
