The frustration of the English fans after the lost European Championship final is deep. A fan even wants to have the game repeated.
A disappointed supporter of the English national team has started an online petition through which he wants to force a repeat of the European Championship final against Italy.
The reason for the concern of the user “Sharon Guilmen” is the overly tough style of play of the Italians in the final and the “biased” referee Björn Kuipers.
Yellow card instead of red for Chiellini? “Anything but fair”
“The game on July 11, 2021 was not fair. The Italians only saw a yellow card after drawing the England players like slaves,” writes Guilmen in the description of the petition, referring to Giorgio’s foul Chiellini to Bukayo Saka.
The captain of the Squadra Azzurra had grabbed Saka by the collar and pulled him to the ground to prevent a counterattack shortly before the end of extra time. Kuipers showed Chiellini the yellow card due to the tactical foul.
In the opinion of the petitioner, however, this should have resulted in a red card. “All the nudges, the pulls, the kicks and Italy was allowed to win anyway? Definitely biased. The replay has to take place with an unaffected referee. That was anything but fair.”
The petition on change.org now has almost 93,000 signatures. The goal is given as 150,000. In order to increase the reach of the concern, Guilmen even started his own TikTok channel called “talyvenglandrm”, where several updates are to be made in the coming days. “Our boys deserve justice,” continues Guilmen.
