While Jessica Pilz is still in the race with seventh place, lead world champion Jakob Schubert only managed 18th and Nicolai Uznik 17th place among 20 participants.

Pilz was surprised after reaching her 44.4 points: “I thought I was somewhere 15. But apparently the round was really difficult and I’m reasonably good at it.” With 98.9 points, bouldering world champion Janja Garnbret from Slovenia set a best performance for women.

In the men’s category, Sorato Anraku from Japan was unbeatable with his 84.9 points. Uznik, who was still strong fifth in the World Cup in the Boulder special competition, only achieved 49.5 and Schubert 44.8 points. The top eight of the semi-finals qualify for the final on Friday and Saturday. A World Championship medal in the combination would mean an Olympic starting place.
