Kevin-Prince Boateng was a fighter and a badass footballer. He often offended, but always stood up for his opinion. Now the 36-year-old is breaking up after many years.
Kevin-Prince Boateng has ended his long football career. “I love you. But that’s it. Thank you football for everything,” wrote the 36-year-old on Instagram for a video that shows the best scenes from 18 years as a professional.
Boateng celebrated his greatest successes at AC Milan by winning the Italian championship and the Supercup in 2011. With Eintracht Frankfurt, the strong attacking player celebrated winning the DFB Cup in 2018 and the Spanish championship with FC Barcelona in 2019. He previously won the League Cup in England in 2008 with Tottenham Hotspur. Ex-colleagues like Luka Modric spoke up. “Congratulations brother on a great career,” wrote the former world footballer from Croatia.
Hertha first and last station
Born in Berlin, he began his career as a child at Hertha BSC, and his heart club was also his last station. He was unable to prevent relegation from the Bundesliga last season and his expiring contract was not extended. Now it’s over. In the past two years, Boateng has been more important for morale than for sporting highlights for the old lady. He played a leading role in the 2022 relegation he won against Hamburger SV.
Boateng made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 18 on August 13, 2005 in a 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Two years later he made the leap to England to join Tottenham Hotspur. After Boateng had gone through various German junior national teams, he decided on Ghana and played a total of 15 international matches for his father’s country from 2010 to 2014 and took part in two world championships.
