Rarely has a transfer from FC Bayern Munich lasted as long as that of Englishman Harry Kane. Yesterday evening, the charter plane finally took off for the private airport in Oberpfaffenhofen – where the Bayern delegation was already eagerly awaiting the 30-year-old captain of the English national team to greet Kane. In the end, Bayern had to put 100 million euros on the table to get the “yes” from Tottenham owner David Levy. Kane’s contract would have run for another year. 20 million euros could be added by bonus payments. Kane signs a contract until 2027 and is expected to receive an annual salary of around 25 million euros.
There had been one last long back and forth before departure. Tottenham had stopped the plane’s departure at noon because they wanted to renegotiate smaller transfer details. It would be possible for Kane to play in today’s Supercup final against Leipzig (8:45 p.m., Allianz Arena Munich). For this, however, everything would have to go very quickly with the registration and approval. Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel: “All options remain open. But as long as nothing is official, the coach will not talk about it.”
Sabitzer debut in the Cup
While Bayern and Leipzig are playing the first title against each other today, the competitors are on the ball in the first round of the cup. Marcel Sabitzer, who played for both Supercup opponents, is likely to make his competitive debut for his new club Dortmund against fourth division Schott Mainz today (3:30 p.m.).
