Argentine tennis player Camilo Ugo Carabelli qualified today for the final of the Meerbusch Challenger, in Germany, after beating Frenchman Manuel Guinard 7-6 (7-5) and 6-0 in the semifinals.
Ugo Carabelli, ranked 171 in the ATP world ranking, beat Frenchman Guinard (281) after one hour and 25 minutes of play.
The 24-year-old tennis player from Buenos Aires will go in search of the title this Sunday against British Jan Choinski (148), who defeated French Titouan Droguet (181) 6-1, 6-4 in the other semifinal.
Ugo Carabelli had a great week in Meerbusch and on his way to the final he successively beat the Belgian Tibo Colson (480), the Turkish Elgi Kirkin (444), the Lebanese Benjamin Hassan (253) and on this day Guinard.
The Meerbusch Challenger is played on clay courts and will award prizes of 73,000 euros.
Argentine tennis players have won 13 Challenger tournaments this year, the category next in importance to the ATP, and they made sure to stretch that figure to 14 this Sunday, while Ugo Carabelli could increase it to 15.
In this context, Argentina secured the title in the Challenger of Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, since the four semifinalists are Federico Coria from Rosario, Genaro Olivieri from Bragadense, Francisco Comesaña from Mar del Plata and Marco Trungelliti from Santiago.
In Santo Domingo, the first semifinal of the day will be led by “Fefo” Coria (103), favorite for the title, and Olivieri (193) from 7:00 p.m. (Argentine time).
Then, not before 8:30 p.m., Trungelliti (222) and Comesaña (170) will meet, who comes from being champion last Sunday at the Challenger in Liberec, in the Czech Republic, in his second title in 2023.
