After winning the World Championship gold in the marathon last Sunday, the 21-year-old Tyrolean was already on course for a medal on the last lap. In a duel with Puck Pieterse from the Netherlands (+ 1:27 min.), the Austrian had to admit defeat by four seconds. Gold went to France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prevot. In the men’s favourite, Thomas Pidcock won. At the first World Championships, which combined many cycling disciplines, Austria was satisfied with two gold, three silver and nine bronze medals. Another almost came yesterday, the time trial bronze medalist Christina Schweinberger came in strong fifth in the women’s road race. The Belgian Lotte Kopecky won.
