SCHLADMING. The top 125 golfers in the PGA rankings have secured their tour tickets for next year – Matthias Schwab is currently in 149th place. “Technical imperfections crept in, which I noticed a little too late,” says the Styrian golf pro, who missed the cut 17 times in 31 tournaments this season. The 28-year-old will be recovering in his Styrian homeland until the fall series of the PGA Tour begins in mid-September. In order to polish his technique again, Schwab switched to coach Mark McCann.
“Keep it simple is the motto, think less and swing more by feeling,” Schwab outlines the route. His biggest problem, apparently, was the long shots. “I hit the balls much worse, sometimes really shitty. And that was actually always my strength, a reliable long game.”
But that requires patience. The home leave should help, where Schwab wants to get the tour out of his head a little. “It’s smarter to take a little distance now and clear my head so that I’m fresh again for the fall.” Most of the time, after a week’s break, the desire to play golf returns. “I’m waiting for this point in time,” says Schwab.
