At the start of the season against Bremen, Manuel Neuer will not be in goal for Bayern. There is no date for his comeback. But there are doubts as to whether he will ever find his way back to his old strength.
Ex-national player Dietmar Hamann considers any consideration by FC Bayern Munich for the injured goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to be wrong.
“Yann Sommer was already an interim solution. Now the time has come for me when you can no longer take that into account. There are too many doubts about Neuer’s return. And even if he does return, no one knows in what form.” said the ex-professional of the German record champions in an interview with “Sport Bild”.
“His skiing trip cost the club a lot of money, possibly also sporting success. It’s bitter that it could end like this. But as FC Bayern you have to get a seasoned goalkeeper now,” Hamann demanded.
Neuer broke his lower leg while skiing nine months ago and originally wanted to be back in goal for FC Bayern at the start of the season. Recently, however, there have been reports that the 37-year-old may not be able to play again until 2024.
Hamann would like Neuer to find his old strength again. “But I doubt it,” he said. The 2014 world champion had already shown mixed games before his injury. “For me, the fact that he’s coming back better after this injury is utopian. Bayern have to get a number one that will give the club three to four years of security.”
