The organization of the fourth and last Grand Slam of the year handed out invitations, but the man from Tandil was left out due to his physical condition.

Del Potro, 34, is considered one of the best rackets in the history of Argentine tennis. His best ATP ranking was achieved with third place in August 2018, he became champion with the Davis Cup team (2016) and also won the silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

However, a series of injuries conditioned his career in recent years. Between 2013 and 2015 he underwent surgery four times on his left wrist and in 2018 he suffered a fractured right patella, an injury that he was never able to overcome despite the operations.

In February 2022 he returned to a court, to the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club, to participate in the Argentina Open. Visibly deteriorated by knee problems, he lost to Federico Delbonis and opened an impasse in his career.
