The 1st Bundesliga starts on Friday. An overview of the most important channels and programs.
The Bundesliga offer on free-to-air television is not very large for football fans. If you want to see all the games of your favorite club or want to be able to choose freely on every match day, you need two subscriptions.
Where are there live games on free TV?
The few games on free-to-air television run on Sat.1. The free TV broadcaster starts on Friday with the Werder Bremen game against Bayern Munich (8.30 p.m.). Sat.1 will broadcast more games on the 17th and 18th matchdays. In addition to these three games from the TV contract with the German Football League, the private broadcaster is showing two other matches from a Sky sub-license. According to the broadcaster, it has not yet been determined what these are.
What else is free?
The most extensive summaries without additional costs are available from the two public broadcasters. In the “Sportschau” on Saturday, ARD shows the highlights of the afternoon games and Friday’s game. The first also shows summaries on Sunday evenings in the first and third programs. ZDF summarizes the 3:30 p.m. matches and the late top game in the “Aktuelle Sportstudio” on Saturday evening. Sport1 offers more pictures on Sunday morning. On Mondays from midnight, three providers show highlight clips on the Internet: ARD, ZDF and Sport1.
Where are the most live Bundesliga games played?
The payment channel Sky broadcasts most of the first division games. 200 league games are played on Saturdays, both the games at 3.30 p.m. and the top game at 6.30 p.m. In addition, Sky offers the encounters during the English weeks and the conference on Saturday afternoons.
The TV provider DAZN, which is also subject to a fee, broadcasts 106 first division games live. The Internet broadcaster shows the game on Friday evening and the two matches on Sunday afternoon. DAZN is also allowed to show games on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. ten times per season.
What does this cost?
Live football on TV costs a lot of money and has become more expensive this season. Sky is currently advertising an offer that costs 25 euros per month for new customers in the first year and then 35.50 euros for an annual subscription. In the previous season these prices were 20 and 32 euros.
DAZN has once again become more expensive with its new package model. The package with the Bundesliga broadcasts on Friday and Sunday is called DAZN unlimited and costs EUR 44.99 with a monthly subscription. In the annual subscription, new customers have to pay 29.99 euros per month.
How can Bundesliga fans save?
If you want to have a free choice, you can save a little with a combination offer. New customers can book the pay TV broadcaster’s Bundesliga package plus DAZN Unlimited as an annual subscription via Sky for EUR 49.99. The offer is more expensive than last year when it cost €38.99 and is “limited in time”. The broadcasters say it is not yet clear how long this package offer will actually be valid. After the minimum contract period has expired, the monthly price increases automatically to EUR 80.49. With this package, fans can also watch most of the Champions League games, but not the DFB-Pokal.
The Telekom package is a little cheaper and more extensive. The so-called MegaSport option costs a total of 49 euros per month for new customers in the first year of the contract and includes other competitions, including all games in the DFB Cup, the Premier League and the 3rd division. Anyone who is already a Telekom customer can get this combination offer for EUR 39 per month. After a year it gets more expensive.
