RTL presented the broadcast concept for the broadcasts from the NFL just under three weeks before the start of the season. In addition, the TV station announced the first ten games that will be shown.
It all starts with the winners and their superstar: The TV broadcaster RTL has presented its broadcasting concept for the live broadcast of the National Football League NFL. At the start of the regular season on September 8 (Friday, 2:20 a.m.), the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and superstar Patrick Mahomes meet the Detroit Lions.
On the following three Sundays (10.9., 17.9., 24.9.) there will be live transmissions of two prime-time games at 7.00 p.m. and 10.25 p.m. on RTL, and another game will be shown exclusively at 7 p.m. on RTL+. From 6.15 p.m., the on-air crews from streaming and free TV will present the run-up to the games of the evening from the new “Rooftop Studio” in Cologne Deutz in a joint pregame show. Those who are already interested in the test games can follow them on the free-to-air TV channel Nitro. Games of the preseason preparation are currently running there.
With detailed preliminary reporting on the NFL
In the future, the run-up to the games will be available on Sundays in the free area on the streaming platform RTL+. From 6.15 p.m. the presenters of RTL and RTL+ will report together from the new “Rooftop Studio” in Cologne-Deutz. From 7 p.m. onwards, the RTL+ crew will be in their own studio. On the first Sunday, the games of the Cincinnati Bengals against the Cleveland Browns and the Carolina Panthers against the Atlanta Falcons will be broadcast.
The RTL Group surprisingly secured an extensive NFL rights package last year, replacing ProSiebenSat.1. According to the Cologne broadcasting group, the free-to-air channels RTL and Nitro and the paid streaming service RTL+ offer around 80 live broadcasts per season. The fee-based Internet broadcaster DAZN also has an extensive NFL package.
