The two San Lorenzo fans arrested in Brazil for racist behavior during the match against São Paulo at the Morumbí stadium, corresponding to the Copa Sudamericana, were released in the last few hours, after being deprived of their liberty since Thursday, August 10.

Matías Ezequiel Ramírez was the first to leave the Itaí prison last night and David Emanuel Benedetto did so today, after intense efforts by the Consul General Luis María Kreckler and the leaders of San Lorenzo Miguel Mastrosimone, Sergio Peljhan and Marcelo Ampugnani.

Mastrosimone, first vice president, traveled to São Paulo twice this week to assist the detainees, who must remain in Brazil until the judicial process is resolved, sources from the Boedo club informed Télam.

During the rematch between San Lorenzo and San Pablo, Benedetto was filmed throwing a banana at the local fans and making monkey gestures in front of a 12-year-old Brazilian boy, for which he was detained by the police.

Ramírez, for his part, made gestures of racist connotation against Afro-descendants from the box destined for the authorities of the Argentine club in the Morumbí.

The Brazilian Justice ordered them preventive detention for being a releaseable crime, but both achieved their freedom after presenting a habeas corpus through their respective legal representation teams.

Law 7,716 in Brazil establishes a prison sentence of two to five years for the crime of racial discrimination.
