Title fights in Budapest: Lückenkemper sprints into the World Cup semifinals over 100 meters

That can and must be even better for Gina Lückenkemper at the World Cup. The European champion continues over 100 meters in third place in her heat.

Double European champion Gina Lückenkemper got off to a bad start at the World Championships in Athletics. The sprinter finished third in her 100-meter heat in Budapest after 11.21 seconds. This meant that the 26-year-old made it through to the semi-finals.

Rebekka Haase was eliminated in 11.43 seconds in sixth place. Both Germans won bronze at the World Championships in the relay a year ago and also want to make a successful appearance in Hungary with the weakened quartet.

In his own words, Lückenkemper was slightly handicapped by back problems. “Something on the back just shifted, which was really uncomfortable in the run,” she said, but immediately gave the all-clear: “It’s absolutely nothing wild. It was still uncool for the run.” She described the dress rehearsal as mixed, and was satisfied with her progress.

US sprinter with the fastest time
