Dissatisfied, he left the EuroSpeedway. After the double at the Lausitzring, Tommy Preining lost his lead in the German Touring Car Masters for the time being. It passed to Sunday winner Mirko Bortolotti (Lamborghini). The Linz Porsche driver already lost a lot of ground on Saturday after a controversial decision.

Preining received three so-called penalty laps for a collision shortly after the start of the race, which in the meantime threw him back to the end of the field. But he didn’t give up, fought his way back to 15th place and at least gained one championship point.

“The punishment was definitely too hard,” said TV expert Markus Winkelhock afterwards. Preining collided with Franck Perera (Lamborghini) and Luca Engstler (Audi) in the early stages and, according to the race director, was the culprit. “In truth, it was a normal starting accident,” defended the Grello driver. Victory then went to Briton Jack Aitken (Ferrari) in front of Italian Bortolotti, who used to drive with an Austrian racing licence.

On Sunday, Bortolotti then came out on top in another close race, while Preining finished fourth. The two now separate seven points in the overall standings. The DTM will be continued from September 8th to 10th at the Sachsenring.
