Three days after his move from Bologna was confirmed, the 34-year-old made his comeback for the 19-time champions and, after coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Monza, prepared Lautaro Martinez’s second goal (76′). The 25-year-old Argentine had previously (8th) also scored the lead.
“We played a good match, I’m happy with everyone,” said Inter coach Simone Inzaghi. “The substitutes did well too.” Among those was Arnautovic, whom Inzaghi brought on in place of Marcus Thuram in the 67th minute. It was the first assignment in Inter-Dress for the Viennese since April 24, 2010.
During his first spell at Inter, Arnautovic only played three times in Serie A. “13 years ago I was more a fan than a player,” said the ÖFB record team player, who now wants to take the opportunity to win the title. “I came here to lift a trophy,” said the Viennese. “What an emotion to be back here,” he wrote on Instagram after his comeback at San Siro Stadium.
Florence warmed up
Fiorentina, Rapid’s opponents in the Europa Conference League play-off, warmed up by beating promoted FC Genoa 4-1. Cristiano Biraghi (5th), Giacomo Bonaventura (11th), Nicolas Gonzalez (40th) and Rolando Mandragora (56th) scored the goals.
