The German Football Association will make further decisions for the future. A new director will be introduced today.
After Rudi Völler was hired as sports director for the men’s national team, the German Football Association made further personnel decisions.
Today (12.00 p.m.) in Frankfurt/Main a new director for the area “Young Talent, Training and Development” will be presented. The association did not name a name in the announcement – according to media reports, it should be the previous U20 coach Hannes Wolf (42).
Participants in the press conference on the DFB campus are the new director, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Völler. DFB general secretary Heike Ullrich announced on ZDF on Sunday that the association was also looking for someone for sports management in women’s football. In addition, a senior management position is to be filled.
Bierhoff had to leave the association
After the men’s selection at the World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022, the then DFB director Oliver Bierhoff had to leave the association. The 55-year-old was responsible for an enormously large area. The former world champion Nadine Kessler is traded as the successor for the then modified management position.
Ullrich outlined the profile for this vacancy as follows: “It’s about coordinating the budget, taking responsibility for personnel” and bringing leadership skills “to the puzzle pieces that we have – youth football, women’s football, men’s football, football in its entirety Competitive sports at national team level, including trainer training – to be brought together”.
Kessler currently works as director of women’s football at the European Football Union UEFA and is held in high esteem there. On Sunday she followed the World Cup final between England and Spain (0-1) in Sydney as a UEFA representative. The DFB had confirmed talks with Kessler, but the former world footballer was not the only candidate. “International” is also “looked into the shop window”, said Ullrich.
