As a three-time world champion, Noah Lyles wants to shape this World Championship in Athletics. From his own point of view, the American mastered the most difficult part.
100-meter world champion Noah Lyles wants to leave the World Athletics Championships in Budapest as a triple champion. The 26-year-old American announced this after his triumph over the sprint king’s distance.
“If people look back on the year, they’re going to say, ‘That was the year that Noah won the 200, the 100, and the relay,'” Lyles said, adding, “And they’re going to say, ‘This is the start of one Dynasty.”
In Hungary, he still has to prove whether Lyles can follow in the great footsteps of Jamaican Usain Bolt, at least in terms of success. However, in contrast to the 100 meters, the defending champion is considered the favorite over 200 meters. At the short distance, where former coaches hadn’t given much credit to him, he won in 9.83 seconds and then shouted into the cameras: “You said it couldn’t be done. You said I’m not the one. But God thank you it’s me.” However, he was still a long way from the self-announced 9.65 seconds.
Gina Lückenkemper’s training companion explained that he had known for a long time that he still had a lot to give to the 100 meters that he had previously given to the 200 meters in particular. The triumph over the short distance was the hardest part of his mission, now he will have fun with the discipline he loves. He spoke about the double victory on the individual routes, “because nobody deserves it more than me”.
The decision about 200 meters will be made on Friday evening. A potential challenger from his own US team comes in Erriyon Knighton, who is only 19 years old.
