Austria’s ice hockey women also won the second game at the B World Championships in China on Monday. One day after the 4-0 win over Norway, Red-White-Red prevailed in Shenzhen against Denmark, which had been relegated to the A-legs, 1-0 (0:0,1:0,0:0) and thus remained on course for promotion. Captain Anna Meixner (22nd) scored the only goal against the Danes at the start of the second period. The next game is on Wednesday (10.30 a.m. CEST) against the Netherlands.
“It was a crazy game. We fought so hard, we fought for every goal. We almost never gave the puck to the Danes for more than three seconds,” said goalkeeper Selma Luggin. “It was a strong team performance, I’m so proud of this young team. That was a big win for Austria, we lost to Denmark in the Olympic qualifiers and now we’ve got revenge.”

Confident 4-0 win at the start against Norway
At the start of the World Cup on Sunday, the ÖEHV selection defeated Norway 4:0 (2:0.2:0.0:0). The goals for red-white-red each scored with a double pack of Tamara Grascher (8th / PP, 20th) and Anna Meixner (32nd, 40th / PP). “We fought to the end, won the important things one-on-one and played good passes. That was a good game from us,” said Grascher
At the World Cup in Division 1A (B-WM), Austria wants to make it into the A-WM for the first time in the six-nation tournament. The World Cup, originally scheduled for April, was postponed due to travel restrictions and testing requirements due to Covid-19 in China. That’s why the World Championships are held right at the start of the season, directly from summer training.
