The former ÖSV cross-country skier and multiple mountain running world champion was diagnosed with a brain tumor 18 years ago. Just like before as an exceptional athlete, the mother of a son showed enormous endurance and great fighting spirit when dealing with her illness.
After her sports career, Pfluger made a name for herself as a wildlife biologist in the late 1990s. She devoted years to wolf research in the Canadian wilderness and was involved as a “wolf woman” in several TV productions (e.g. “On the trail of the coastal wolves”/ZDF 2005). As a nature conservationist, Pfluger was a passionate lecturer, and she has also realized a number of book projects.
She always regarded the years after the discovery of the malignant tumor as “free” time. Her chance of surviving the diagnosis for more than a year was ten percent. She had been given another 18 years.
