The boat of the recently formed Austrian rowing eight was christened “Christoph” on Saturday in Ottensheim. It was a sentimental choice, as the namesake is Christoph Seifriedsberger, the national team rower who was involved in a fatal cycling accident during a training camp in Italy in January.

“The figure eight is the ultimate symbol of a strong team. It’s all the nicer that the team is honoring their teammates who had an accident with the naming,” said national coach Robert Sens. “It’s nice that Christoph can be such a part of the team.” After 51 years, an ÖRV men’s eight should again get a quota place at the World Cup, which begins on September 3rd in Belgrade. At the U23 European Championships in Krefeld, Konrad Hultsch won silver and Laura Swoboda/Lisa Zehetmair bronze.
