This was announced by Red Bull team boss Christian Horner. As Horner explained on the sidelines of the Formula 1 race in Zandvoort, Ricciardo had several screws and a plate inserted during the operation in Barcelona. “It went well, it was successful,” said the Briton. Asked about the timeframe of Ricciardo’s return, he said: “We’ll have to wait and see how the recovery process goes in the end, but certainly not in Italy.” After Monza, a home race for the Italian racing team AlphaTauri, the Singapore Grand Prix follows on September 17th and Japan on September 24th.

The 34-year-old veteran broke a metacarpal bone on his left hand in the second Friday practice session in Zandvoort and was replaced for the remainder of the weekend’s program by New Zealander Liam Lawson, who finished 13th in the Netherlands. Ricciardo has contested two races since his comeback with AlphaTauri, which belongs to the Red Bull Group.
