Robin Gosens flashed from Cristiano Ronaldo – now he took revenge

In the private duel between Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Gosens, the Portuguese initially took the lead. A goal by Gosens in the early stages of the European Championship group game between Germany and Portugal was denied due to offside, then the DFB defender came too late to prevent Ronaldo from making it 1-0. In the end, however, the German was clearly ahead: With two assists and one goal of his own, Robin Gosens was the man of the evening in Munich.

For the 26-year-old, it was not only the game of his life, but possibly also a little satisfaction. Gosens made the acquaintance of Cristiano Ronaldo in Italy – and received a painful rejection from the five-time world footballer. Gosens reports about this in his autobiography “Dreaming is Worth It”, which he published this year. In the book he describes his path to becoming a professional footballer.

Cristiano Ronaldo refused to swap shirts with Robin Gosens

In the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, the Italian cup competition, Gosens and his club Atalanta Bergamo had defeated Ronaldo 3-0 with his club Juventus Turin. An admirer of the Portuguese for many years, Gosens tried to secure Ronaldo’s shirt after the game. For this he even skipped the celebrations of his own teammates. “Cristiano, can I maybe have your jersey?” He asked Ronaldo, Gosens reports in his book. The answer: “No!”

Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t even look at him, Gosens said. The left-back, who was still relatively new to top-level football at the time, was embarrassed: “At least I think I ran completely red and was even ashamed for a brief moment. I had just been shaved off the plate and felt tiny Hat, “recalls Gosens. “CR7 didn’t feel like me.”

Gosens steals the show from Ronaldo

Perhaps the defeat at the time was the reason for Ronaldo’s harsh reaction. Even on Saturday evening in Munich, the superstar was probably very annoyed despite his goal – and Robin Gosens played a big part in that. The German left-back put a lot of pressure on his side and was the match winner in the German 4-2 victory.

“I really lost one. I’m extremely happy,” said the professional from Atalanta Bergamo after the game – and not only played his way into the hearts of German football fans, but also won a lot of sympathy with his authentic manner. Cristiano Ronaldo, the name Robin Gosens should have been known by this evening at the latest.
