World number one Iga Swiatek also showed a merciless performance against her best friend in tennis at the US Open. A returnee continues her dream comeback.
Defending champion Iga Swiatek has reached the round of 16 at the US Open with a demonstration of her extra class. The 22-year-old Pole outclassed the Slovenian Kaja Juvan 6: 0, 6: 1 and only allowed her best friend 15 points on the tennis tour.
Caroline Wozniacki continued her fantastic Grand Slam comeback in New York and continued to fight 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 1 against American Jennifer Brady. The 33-year-old Dane took a break from early 2020 until August of this year and became a mother twice.
Swiatek is aiming for a fifth Grand Slam triumph
Swiatek converted the first match point after 49 minutes. At the Grand Slam tournament in New York, the world number one did not lose a set this year and only lost nine games. Swiatek now meets Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia.
“I didn’t like winning against my best friend. I knew I had to stay focused and not think about it,” Swiatek said in an interview at Louis Armstrong Stadium. “I don’t have many friends, but she’s my best friend.” She is aiming for her fifth Grand Slam triumph at the US Open.
