Max Verstappen is tense. Nevertheless, he wins his tenth Formula 1 race in a row in Monza. Verstappen trumps Sebastian Vettel. Has the German sent him a message yet?
Max Verstappen was unable to report a message from Sebastian Vettel shortly after his Formula 1 record drive.
“I didn’t have my phone to hand yet. I’ll check later,” said the Red Bull driver at the press conference after his tenth win of the season in a row. With his triumph at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Verstappen overtook the four-time world champion from Germany in this category. However, Vettel had already congratulated the Dutchman after setting the record two weeks ago in Zandvoort.
Proud Verstappen
“I would not have thought at the beginning of the season that something like this was possible,” said Verstappen proudly after his next victory. Thanks to him and Sergio Perez from Mexico, Red Bull have won all 14 Grands Prix so far this season. “What we’re doing at the moment, which is winning every race this year, is something we’re definitely enjoying because I don’t think there are seasons like that very often,” said Verstappen, who finished in front of Perez in the world championship standings with a superior lead of 145 points.
“It’s an incredible success story,” said Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko, praising the performance of his 25-year-old star driver. Verstappen wasn’t that cool before the historic weekend. “Max was relatively nervous before this tenth victory, which he usually isn’t, already on Friday in the car set-up. I know him well enough, I know how he ticks,” reported Marko. “I hope that’s resolved now.”
