DFB newcomer Pascal Groß was personally “surprised” that his dream of joining the national soccer team at the age of 32 was still being fulfilled. The midfielder from English Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion presented himself as an absolute team player after his first training session with Germany in Wolfsburg.
“I’m a team player, that’s my greatest strength,” said the former Bundesliga professional at FC Ingolstadt.
Groß is hoping for his international debut against Japan next Saturday in Wolfsburg or three days later against France in Dortmund. “I just try to fulfill my role when I get playing minutes,” said the native of Mannheim. Groß is also characterized by the fact that he could fill several positions. But his best position is eight. The first training with the DFB colleagues was fun, said Groß.
National coach Hansi Flick invited him to the DFB for the first time after consistently good performances in England. Groß is an “intelligent” footballer and also “a good guy”. At 32, the midfielder would be one of the oldest debutants in DFB history.
