Due to the Koran burnings in June, the Scandinavian country currently has the second highest terror alert level of four. According to media reports, the Swedish association is therefore urging caution. The ÖFB is also taking the situation seriously.

ÖFB head of security Heimo Kraus spoke to the team at the team camp in Windischgarsten on Friday morning to explain the current situation. “We have been in contact with the Interior Ministry and the Swedish association about this for weeks,” Kraus told APA.

Four police officers travel to Stockholm

Four officers familiar with the scene will fly with the team to Stockholm on Monday. They act as a link on site and are integrated into the police operation around the game. On the day of the match, there is a police escort for David Alaba and Co. on the way from the hotel to the stadium and back again. The ÖFB also asked for an escort for the journeys the day before the game, but there was no confirmation as of Friday afternoon.

The national team’s accommodation in Sweden is under increased security. “Police patrols will drive past our hotel more often than usual,” explained Kraus. Including VIP fans, around 940 Austrian supporters are expected at the Friends Arena in Solna near Stockholm.
