In an ORF interview on Monday morning before the final training session in Windischgarsten, the 65-year-old answered the question of whether he would be available to answer a request from the DFB with a simple “no”. After the dismissal of Hansi Flick, Germany is looking for a new national coach, and Rangnick’s name was mentioned.
However, the ÖFB coach took himself out of the game when looking for a successor. “I decided 14 months ago to work as team boss here and to prepare the team so that we qualify for the European Championships and play a good role there. Everything else is not an issue for me,” explained the 65-year-old a few hours before departure for the European Championship qualifier in Sweden. With a win in Solna, Austria would almost certainly be at EURO 2024 in Germany.
