Peter Michorl does not appear in the Linz Bundesliga team’s squad for the group games in the Europa League.
The 28-year-old is probably one of the big losers for Linz in this young season. While the midfielder was a quasi-fixed part of the team for many seasons, Michorl recently only found a place in the stands in the league.
“I can’t blame the players who sat in the stands – but I had to make a decision,” said coach Thomas Sageder after the 2-0 win over Austria, in which Michorl, Thomas Goiginger and Filip Stojkovic also had no place had found a squad.
“It’s not the best thing for me when I have to tell players that they’re not in the squad, but it’s part of the job. The boys take it very professionally,” Sageder continued at the time. “I try to be fair and transparent with my players. It’s a game of managing the team – it’s not easy, I have to admit.”
The current decision on the European Cup squad is fueling rumors that the mood between Michorl and the team management might not be good. Stojkovic and Husein Balic, among others, appear to be in the squad in question.
