The online portal has been open for a few days for all competitions of the 22nd Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon on April 6th and 7th, 2024, and the number of participants is already high months before the country’s largest popular sports event. This could also be due to the fact that the “Generali 5K”, a new entry-level competition over five kilometers, will be held for the first time on marathon Sunday. The start of this “Quickie” is on the Untere Donaulände at the Brucknerhaus in Linz; the finish, like the other running competitions, will be the main square. Of course, there will also be a finisher medal and refreshments in the finish bar for the five-kilometer runners.
Another innovation is a bridge to culture on the occasion of the Bruckner Year 2024. A “Bruckner Mile” will be installed on the route under the title “Symphony of Running”. The marathon Sunday on April 7th, 2024 is still a “test gallop” here; the “Bruckner Mile”, which has been set up as a permanent running route between the Brucknerhaus and the Linz Cathedral, will not be officially opened until September 15th, 2024 with the “1st Anton Bruckner Run”. You can also register online for this premiere.
The 22nd Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon will continue the path towards sustainability that was taken years ago. The goal here is certification as a “Green Event”. This is not an easy task for a major event where a total of 15,000 participants are expected. For example, there will no longer be any PET bottles on the route. All drinks are served in paper cups. The traffic concept is also being set in such a way that the marathon weekend will leave as green a footprint as possible.
Running meetings from November
A special service of the Linz Marathon will be offered again this time. The first LIVA running meeting with ex-professional Günther Weidlinger will take place on November 4th (9 a.m., Parkbad Linz). The first Oberbank running meeting with pacemaker Gerhard Hartmann is on November 18th. Participation in all running meetings is free of charge and possible without registration.
