The Australian driver was already tied to McLaren until the end of 2024. This emerged from the disputes with Alpine when the team disclosed the agreement.

This means that the two McLaren cockpits are occupied for the long term, as young star Lando Norris had previously extended his contract with the up-and-coming racing team until the end of 2025.

Debutant Piastri’s contract is the second longest in Formula 1. Only Max Verstappen’s (2028) has a later expiry date. Piastri’s best result to date is a fourth place in Great Britain.
