FC Bayern: Kane’s Oktoberfest cheers after the hat-trick

Oans, two, three pack – after the big goal show, Harry Kane celebrates in great spirits at the Oktoberfest. “Close your eyes and push through” is his trainer’s motto. Hoeneß has an expectation.

Harry Kane smiled with the stein in his hand. Cheered on by a small crowd of fans, FC Bayern’s 100 million euro striker, smartly dressed in leather trousers and a traditional jacket, happily posed alongside Manuel Neuer at his Oktoberfest premiere.

“I want to soak up as much of the celebration as possible,” said the Bundesliga’s new super striker after his shooting show in the 7-0 win against VfL Bochum. “I’m proud, it’s a special day. My first hat-trick for FC Bayern and in front of our fans too – we have to keep it up.” The 30-year-old Englishman enjoyed a pretzel surrounded by lots of ladybird balloons.

As was the case eight years ago under Pep Guardiola, the Bayern stars once again celebrated a victory in the celebrity tent. “Full throttle from the first to the last minute. After five minutes you could see that the team really wants to have a nice Oktoberfest,” said Honorary President Uli Hoeneß blissfully: “If you play so well, then you can celebrate too.”

In a good mood and wearing a traditional hat, coach Thomas Tuchel led his ensemble on the way to Käfer’s Oktoberfest tavern. “Delicious food is always good, and traditional food is very welcome,” said Tuchel, who is anything but a beer fan in everyday life. “I’ll find something, they’ll put something in my beer mug,” joked the 50-year-old ascetic. On ZDF he revealed his personal motto at the Oktoberfest premiere as Bayern coach: “The lederhosen are ready, we strap them on – and then close our eyes and get through.”

Fun in the marquee

At midday, the evergreen “A Prosit to Cosiness” quickly sounded from the marquee. “We were very happy with our game. And we will increase the pitchers accordingly,” announced Oktoberfest expert Thomas Müller. The national player called for a “moderate” afternoon. “With an eye, because we’re playing again in two days.” The cup continues on Tuesday with third division team Preußen Münster.

Tuchel laughed at the traditional souvenir photo with the Bavaria statue in the background and the beer mug in his hand. The performance against Bochum with a lot of esprit had noticeably lifted his spirits. “We made it look easy. That was because we did the little things really diligently and attentively,” said the coach.

Patron Hoeneß would like to see that constant. “With the squad we have, you can expect to celebrate football like that – and that was football of the highest quality,” said the 71-year-old. The club patron returned to Theresienwiese shortly after the team. In addition to Kane, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Matthijs de Ligt, Leroy Sané and again top joker Mathys Tel delighted the fans with goals against Bochum.

The series champion was able to march into the folk festival as the front runner. Sports director Christoph Freund spoke of a “perfect Oktoberfest weekend”. A visit to the beer tent is “important for the camaraderie, for the team structure.” Can top scorer Kane also do Oktoberfest? “Let’s see. This is definitely a new experience for him,” remarked Freund.

Kane and the tight Haferlschuh

According to Kane, he still has to get used to the “really tight” shoes. In football boots, the 30-year-old can score almost at will. A year after the failed experiment without a well-known number 9 in the center of attack, FC Bayern again has a real successor to former world footballer Robert Lewandowski.

Kane already has seven goals to his name after five league games for his new club. The Bundesliga record purchase improved a club record. After their first five games in Bayern uniform, Gerd Müller, Miroslav Klose and Mario Mandzukic were the best with five goals.

“He scores, he has assists and plays without frills. He shows personality – and he also takes responsibility. Job done,” said Tuchel about Kane. The coach was successful with his surprising changes – Choupo-Moting and de Ligt were in the starting line-up, among others. President Herbert Hainer gave it “an A,” who liked to take a hearty sip from the beer mug on an “atmospheric afternoon.” He wasn’t worried about a lavish party. “I think they all know that they have to play again in the next few days and so they are pulling themselves together.”
