After the 1:4 on Friday away to the Pioneers Vorarlberg, where the hosts scored three goals in the last ten minutes, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz suffered their next bitter defeat in the ICE on Sunday with the 1:4 against the Pustertal Wölfe Hockey League. Matt MacKenzie (26th) scored Linz’s only goal to make it 1-1. Ex-Linzer Rick Schofield had given the guests the lead a few minutes earlier. Shortly before the end of the middle third, the Wolves took the lead again through Zachary Sill.

In the final third, Stefan Gaffal had to leave the ice early. The attacker remained on the ice for minutes after a violent check. The 26-year-old was taken to the UKH for further examinations. After all, initial tests gave a “cautious all-clear,” as the Black Wings said in a broadcast after the game. Further details about the type and severity of the injury were not initially available.

After the break, the game initially plodded along. In the 52nd minute, Arvin Atwal made it 3-1, before Schofield’s second goal into the now empty Linz goal sealed the home team’s defeat.
