Since the 2015/2016 school year, it has been possible for talented girls from the ninth grade onwards to combine kick with the round leather as a competitive sport and the Matura in dual training at the Upper Austria Women’s Football Academy.
This year too, the FFA OÖ, which is associated with the Sportland OÖ, is looking for the OÖ. Football Association, the Union Kleinmünchen and the FC Blau-Weiß Linz cooperated, the female stars of tomorrow are once again: Talented young footballers born in 2009, 2010 and 2011 can meet at two viewing dates (October 6th and October 13th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Pichling sports park) for admission.
“The quality of women’s football is increasing significantly internationally. The women’s football academy is a milestone in Upper Austria. We are pleased to offer talented girls the opportunity for dual training and thus secure the next generation in women’s football,” says Gerald Reindl, sports director of the FFA Upper Austria.
Partner schools are the Federal Higher Secondary School Linz and the Linz Commercial School for Competitive Sports. Last year, 53 girls applied – this year we are looking for the next six to eight coveted admission places. The best talents are then on the training pitch five to six times a week.
What also makes Reindl particularly proud? “Unlike other academies, with us it is also possible to play for your home club, at least in the first few years. In addition to the academy, we also offer girls the opportunity to play football in all age groups from the U7 onwards. That’s in Austria is almost unique.” Thanks to the great work in Linz, Austria’s women’s football is replenished.
