Stefan Kuntz is considered a coaching candidate for the women’s national team. The decision in the Voss-Tecklenburg case is approaching.
After the 4-0 win against Iceland, the German footballers have clearly positioned themselves in the Martina Voss-Tecklenburg case. No more floating – that was the unanimous message in Bochum.
Meanwhile, former German U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz and Ralf Kellermann from VfL Wolfsburg are considered candidates for the positions of national coach and sports director for the DFB women.
The “Bild” newspaper reported after the game that Kuntz, who most recently worked as Turkey’s national coach, was a candidate if Voss-Tecklenburg did not continue. The 60-year-old was relieved of his duties in Turkey just a few days ago. The German Football Association did not comment on the report. “I have no information about this,” said a spokeswoman when asked.
Team wants certainty
“It is now time for a decision to be made and for clarity to be achieved,” said midfielder Lena Lattwein after the DFB women’s first victory in the Nations League, with which they maintained their Olympic chances. “It’s not a good situation for us that we don’t have any certainty.” Other players made similar comments. Captain Alexandra Popp said: “Of course we need clarity as to exactly what will happen next. We will enter into discussions with the DFB.”
As in the 2-0 loss in Denmark, previous assistant Britta Carlson sat on the bench instead of Voss-Tecklenburg, who was ill. The fact that Carlson will also be the boss at the next two international matches on October 27th in Sinsheim against Wales and on October 31st in Iceland is now considered impossible – even if, according to the 45-year-old, this is contractually possible.
Return uncertain
Voss-Tecklenburg’s return to coaching is uncertain. Carlson hasn’t spoken to her longtime confidant on the phone in weeks. Carlson said she kept the 55-year-old up to date with text messages.
Lattwein said she had no information about Voss-Tecklenburg’s health. “I don’t know how she’s doing at the moment. We have the information, she’s not feeling well. It might take a while until she comes back – if she comes back. Everything that follows now is a matter for the DFB.” The association informed about Voss-Tecklenburg’s absence due to illness on September 8th. The 55-year-old’s contract is valid until 2025.
