Leon Goretzka was recently not called up for the national team by Hansi Flick. The 28-year-old is looking forward to Flick’s successor Julian Nagelsmann.
National player Leon Goretzka saw the appointment of former Bayer coach Julian Nagelsmann as national coach as “the logical step”.
“I’m glad that we have an outstanding coach in Julian and I’m looking forward to our time together,” said the 28-year-old on ZDF after FC Bayern won 4-0 in the cup at third division club Preußen Münster.
Nagelsmann (36) was introduced last week as Hansi Flick’s successor. Next week, the new national coach will most likely nominate his first squad for the DFB team’s trip to the USA in October. Flick did not call up Goretzka for the September games. The 1:4 against Japan was Flick’s last game as national coach. In the 2-1 win against France, Rudi Völler took care of the team on a temporary basis.
Nagelsmann was released from Bayern last March. In 2022 he celebrated the championship title with Munich, Goretzka was one of the top performers in Nagelsmann’s squad.
