Lothar Matthäus harshly criticizes the English fans. The Italian team, however, impressed the record international.
Sky-Expert Lothar Matthäus has settled with the English fans at the EM and their misconduct and described the final defeat as “deserved”.
“Sorry for the players, you deserve the trauma that continues after the final lost on penalties,” wrote Matthäus in his column in the Sports picture and based his opinion on the well-documented misconduct of some English supporters during and after the tournament.
Matthew: “It’s no secret that my heart beats for Italy too”
“English fans who are hostile to a little girl in the Germany jersey. A Wembley stadium whistling for the opposing national anthem. Denmark’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who also plays in the Premier League, is blinded by a laser when taking a penalty. Raheem Sterling tricked himself into a penalty with a swallow in the semifinals. Add to that the racist hostility towards his own players after the lost European Championship final, “said Matthäus, explaining his criticisms.
All of this is simply “unsportsmanlike behavior that we don’t know from you and never want to see it again,” said Matthäus, who did not hide the fact that he had great sympathy for European champions Italy due to his time as a player at Inter Milan.
“It’s no secret that because of my playing time in Serie A, my heart beats for Italy too. But I’m sure: I wasn’t the only one who was enthusiastic about the attractive football of this team and the friendly demeanor of players like Giorgio Chiellini,” added Matthew out.
